The irony was not lost on last night’s HD debut of The Simpsons. Over the years, creator Matt Groening has used the series to fire off a number of barbs about the technology’s failed promises. So what better way to observe a screwed up DTV transition than using HD to showcase one of television’s most screwed up families a few days before the (until recently) scheduled analog shutoff?

But while the Simpsons screwups are somehow endearing, one can’t say the same about thing about the transition.
