TCI Acquires Kline Towers Drawing Portfolio
IRMO, S.C.: Tower Consultants Inc., acquired exclusive rights to the drawing portfolio of Kline Towers in Columbia, S.C. Kline has been in business since it was started as a steel- and ironworks in 1953. Kline built San Francisco’s 977-foot Sutro TV tower in 1971. It remains the city’s tallest structure. Kline also build the 2,000-foot guyed KOLR-TV tower in Springfield, Mo.; a 1,560-foot guyed tower for WXXI-TV in Gulfport, Miss.; and the 1,600-foot guyed tower for KSAT-TV in San Antonio, Texas, among others. TCI was founded by a Kline alumnus in 2005-- Jean-Alain Lecordier, now president of TCI. Lecordier was with Kline for 18 years. He and Greg Kelish, TCI’s chief executive, have more than 500 tower projects between them. Kelish was formerly the vice president of operations at Spectrasite Broadcast Group.
Terms of the deal were undisclosed. Lecordier said TCI will provide services for current Kline Tower owners in the way of structural analysis, tower modifications and maintenance.
In addition to its Columbia headquarters, Kline has offices in Seattle and Dallas. Kline itself was acquired by Dielectric five years ago and combined with Central Tower to form Dielectric Tower Operations, which was later sold to Liberty Industries of Newburgh, Ind.
