Germany: Eutelsat KabelKiosk Launches First HD Channels

KabelKiosk, a digital channel platform for cable operators provided by the German subsidiary of Eutelsat Communications, is growing its HD tier with a few new HD offerings, notably RTL HD and VOX HD channels from Mediengruppe RTL Deutschland.

The addition to KabelKiosk of both channels follows a new deal between Eutelsat Germany and Mediengruppe, which was announced last week (Jan. 21) at Eutelsat's annual reception in Berlin.

RTL HD and VOX HD is being offered in Germany on KabelKiosk via Eutelsat's Eurobird 9A satellite, which will be used to further capacity (literally and figuratively) to grow KabelKiosk's HD tier to a planned 10 German and international channels in the near future, along with some HD/SD VOD options.

Besides in Germany, KabelKiosk currently also offers more than 100 digital channels (both in German and other languages) to about 250 partners in Austria, Denmark, Luxembourg and Switzerland.
