Loral Files FCC Application to Transfer Satellites to Intelsat
Loral Ltd. and some of its affiliates, including two holding FCC space station authorizations, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy on July 15, 2003. The two divisions, Loral Spacecom and Loral Satellite, have filed applications with the FCC asking for consent to transfer "certain non-common carrier space station authorizations and applications" to Intelsat. The satellites affected are Telstar 4, Telstar 5, Telstar 6, Telstar 7 and Telstar 8. Telstar 13, which was launched August 7 (see story below), is licensed by Papua, New Guinea and is not included in the FCC application for transfer. See the FCC Public Notice DA 03-2672 for more details on the transfer application.
