RF Central Hits Homerun At World Baseball Classic

TORONTO, ONTARIO – RF Central, part of The Vitec Group's RF Extreme business unit, and a leading provider of digital and analog microwave systems for the broadcast industry, common carrier, cable, government, military and international marketplace, was a hit at this year’s World Baseball Classic games at the Rogers Centre in Toronto, Canada as its RMR-X6-II receiver and RFX-CMT-II transmitter provided interference-free coverage.

"We were very happy to be part of the World Baseball Classic," says Robert Wilson, president of RF Wireless. "For the tournament, we used RF Central's X6-II receiver and CMT-II Camera-Mounted Transmitter for our camera that was taking viewers in and out of commercials, roving around the stadium and showing fans enjoying the game during the six World Baseball Classic games played in Toronto."

The World Baseball Classic is the premier international baseball tournament, sanctioned by the International Baseball Federation, and features some of the best players in the world competing for their home countries and territories. Pool C, which consisted of the United States, Canada, Venezuela and Italy, played its games at the Rogers Centre in Toronto.

"The camera was used all throughout the stadium and the X6-II receiver and CMT-II transmitter performed flawlessly," adds Wilson. "It provided incredible high definition images with no interference and added another dimension to the excitement of the World Baseball Classic."

The 2 GHz CMT-II unit, which Wilson used, is designed for live ENG news, as well as sports broadcast applications. The CMT-II is offered in either SD or SD/HD models, each featuring the latest in high-quality, low latency encoding technology and is also available in 5.8 GHz and 6.4 GHz versions. All versions feature inputs of HD-SDI, SD-SDI, ASI or composite video signals.

While the CMT-II family of transmitters is available in SD only, all models are software upgradeable to full HD via software key and will interface with all standard full-sized broadcast cameras as well as most smaller format camcorders, via the user specific mounting adapters.

Representing the latest in maximum ratio combining technology, the X6-II family offers superior diversity reception with new cutting-edge features, including On Screen Display of stream data, Ethernet monitoring for remote control access and IP encapsulation for Internet broadcast. The X6-II is available either as a stand alone COFDM receiver with ASI output or with an integral SD/HD decoder making local decode and control available.

"Whenever you are working with live broadcast and live image transmission, the potential for loss of signal is always in the back of your mind," continues Wilson. "It is essential to have reliable receivers and transmitters. With RF Central, I can rest assured knowing that anywhere we are in the stadium, we are going to have a clear, reliable signal time and time again. We were introduced to RF Central products about five years ago and have been using their products ever since."
