AURALEX ACOUSTICS HELPS AUDIOENGINE’S NEW POST PRODUCTION FACILITY RUN ON ALL CYLINDERS

PHOENIX, AZ, MARCH 31, 2009 – audioEngine, a post production facility with studios in New York and Phoenix, recently expanded its Phoenix facility with the addition of a new suite for composer Jason Camiolo. With the new space came new sound quality issues that audioEngine staff composer and producer Jason Camiolo needed to address in order to achieve consistent and balanced audio between the two locations. In order to solve such challenges, audioEngine turned to Auralex Acoustics to analyze and outfit the space with its best-selling acoustical treatment products.

While the facility already featured a nicely sized Studio 1 with a sound booth, Camiolo wanted to expand the composing room to create a recording booth within its space. An adjacent office was knocked down to achieve this. He also had tie lines installed throughout the building so he would be able to use the composing booth from either room. In addition, Camiolo, an accomplished musician who was drummer for the Platinum-selling rock band Fuzzbubble, as well as composer of Emmy award-winning commercial spots, independent films and documentaries, needed to ensure that his signature sound would be maintained. The newly renovated composition space utilizes Auralex’s treatments extensively to attain the proper end result.

“When I look over my desk into my booth, my back wall is covered in Auralex’s AudioTile,” says Camiolo. “And if you’re in the booth looking into the control room that back wall is lined with the SpaceArrays. Then I have some StudioFoam Metro upfront and on either side of my window, deadening around my monitor; and more Metro foam in the booth. “

AudioTile, designed by Russ Berger for Auralex Acoustics’ pArtScience line, absorbs echoes and other undesirable reflections though a wide range of frequencies and available in eye-catching options. Also designed by Russ Berger, the pArtScience SpaceArray combines excellent hemispherical acoustical diffusion with a top quality wood finish. Strong and lightweight, the beautiful 24"x24" solid paulownia wood panels install easily and can be used in a variety of placement options, including “T-bar” grids. Auralex’s 4” StudioFoam Metro serves to spread sonic energy out, while absorbing a slightly different slice of the frequency spectrum than typical absorbers.

Since audioEngine’s new satellite office is in a commercial building, Auralex’s StopGap sealant caulking materials were also used around the door framing for added isolation.

“I am thrilled with the sound quality of my space, now that Auralex’s products are installed,” continues Camiolo. “When I first purchased the products, I knew I needed more but I didn’t want to over buy, so we just put in what we thought would get us going. Now that we are settled in, we are definitely looking to purchase some additional products from Auralex.”

“Acoustics is not solely reserved for musicians,” says Dave Paxton, director of operations at Auralex Acoustics. “Audio and video post production professionals, such as the crew at audioEngine, recognize the need and value of having a balanced space to work in. We are happy that we were able to provide a solution to their sound quality issues in their new facility and look forward to working with them to further treat their space.”
