Imaging Technology Expert Michael Sterling Joins NTC
National TeleConsultants (NTC), the world leader in strategic technology consulting and engineering design services for the broadcast and media industry, has named Michael Sterling as a Principal Consultant. Sterling will be responsible for providing expert consulting services. His areas of expertise and operational insight include: media asset management and security/encryption systems; digital cinema content packaging, delivery, and play-out solutions; and related business issues.
Prior to joining NTC, Sterling served in several high-level capacities at Technicolor over a 16-year period. Positions included Vice President of Client Services at Technicolor Digital Cinema, Principal Technologist, and Director of Advanced Technologies. His achievements included the development of a complete end-to-end digital cinema system, the design and implementation of a digital cinema content-preparation facility, and the establishment of 45 Auditorium Management Systems around the world for delivery and play-out of major feature-film releases. His work also included the world‘s first encrypted-delivery system and first multi-screen server with a tamper-resistant decoder/decryptor module.
“Michael Sterling brings unparalleled expertise to NTC in his new position,” remarks Managing Partner Eliot Graham. “His real-world knowledge and operational insights in the application of contemporary and leading-edge technologies for digital cinema, television, broadband, and other secure media-delivery sectors provide the thought-leadership NTC‘s clients need to participate in the new opportunities made possible by the ever-increasing array of new digital-content delivery methods. These range all the way from high-resolution theatrical digital cinema exhibition to heavily compressed video on small, hand-held viewing devices.”
“Digital content creation, storage, delivery, and play-out provide enormous opportunities to the media and entertainment industries,” observes Sterling. “Along with these opportunities, however, are the challenges of media-asset management, encryption and security, and a range of business issues. More than ever before, the industry needs the advanced media-systems consulting support that NTC is uniquely able to provide, given its deep understanding of the latest technical and business concerns. I look forward to contributing my knowledge, along with that of my colleagues, to supporting NTC‘s world-leading clients in these new areas of opportunity.”
Recognized as one of the media industry‘s leading technology experts, Sterling is active in the SMPTE and other standards organization committees and will represent NTC in industry technology forums. Sterling holds six patents in media technology. He earned both Bachelor and Master of Science in Electrical Engineering degrees from the University of Illinois.
