NUCOMM LAUNCHES NEW PROQ DTV IFB RECEIVER AT HD WORLD 2008

New Product Monitor DTV Signals and Allows for IP Connectivity

New York, NY, October 21, 2008 – Nucomm, Inc., a brand of The Vitec Group, and a leading provider of digital and analog microwave systems for the broadcast industry, common carrier, cable, government, military and international marketplace, redefined the monitoring of DTV signals and IP technology connectivity with its new ProQ DTV IFB Receiver, which debuted at HD World 2008. Ideal as an IFB solution for ENG users during DTV transmission, monitoring of DTV signals through a DVB-ASI output and streaming video over an IP connection to a laptop or other IP-enabled device, the ProQ DTV IFB Receiver features dual UHF/VHF antennas, two advanced silicon tuners and 6th generation VSB demodulators. The ProQ is 5” x 1.75” x 8.5”.

“Nucomm is always developing products to help bring more efficiency to broadcast production,” says John Payne IV, VP of Engineering. “Through our new ProQ DTV IFB Receiver, users in the field can monitor the quality of DTV transmission and receive cueing signals from the studio. It also affords broadcasters the benefits of streaming DTV video over IP, which is becoming a new standard within today’s industry.”

The ProQ contains an MPEG Layer 1/Layer 2 audio decoder that is capable of decoding two independent sound programs, providing up to four audio channels and using bit rates as low as 32 kbps for each. Coupled with a low-latency audio encoders and proper design of the DTV packet insertion, total audio latency can be less than 80 ms. Designed with its audio signal outputs on a 5-pin XLR connector.

Designed for easy and rapid user configuration, broadcasters can easily select the DTV channel and audio program PIDs using either the menus on the front panel LCD display or the Web interface. It can also map the IFB audio channels to the XLR outputs, internal speaker or headphones. Status information, such as RF signal level/quality, DTV signal lock and audio levels, is available through ProQ DTV IFB Receiver’s Web interface and is updated in real-time on the front panel LCD display.

In keeping with the industry’s rapid evolution in technology as well as audio compression and encapsulation standards, ProQ DTV IFB Receiver’s firmware-based audio decoder is upgradable. As an IP-enabled device, it is strategically designed for advancement through the built-in Ethernet interface using a laptop computer and a Web browser.

The ProQ DTV IFB Receiver will be shipping in December. Nucomm is currently accepting orders for both the low latency studio mux and DIFB receiver. For more information about Nucomm and its new ProQ DTV IFB Receiver, call 908-852-3700.
