SOLID STATE LOGIC INTRODUCES C10 HD DIGITAL BROADCAST AUDIO CONSOLE AT NAB 2009
Console Combines Reliability and Performance with Intelligently Simplified Design and Operation
LAS VEGAS, NV—At NAB (Booth N4031), world-leading media technology innovator Solid State Logic (SSL) will introduce to the world the C10 HD Digital Broadcast Audio Console. The C10 HD combines the highest standards of reliability and performance for a wide range of on-air applications, with intelligently simplified design, and operation, all in an exceptionally cost effective and compact package.
“The C10 HD brings an unprecedented combination of size, price and performance to the broadcast console market,” says Steve Zaretsky, Vice President of Broadcast, SSL, Inc. “The C10 HD benefits from the world-wide success of the C100 HD console, offering all of the robustness along with SSL’s renowned signal processing, in an intuitive user interface, designed for the smaller budget broadcast market.”
The C10 HD console integrates all DSP signal processing, and operating hardware into a convection-cooled control surface. Full processing redundancy, also within the console surface, is available as an option. The console comes in two frame sizes – 24+8 and 32+8 – with scalable DSP and I/O options. The simple control surface layout is complimented by a clear graphical overview of all signals, augmented with SSL’s Eyeconix feature that presents thumbnail pictures of sources to be displayed for fast visual recognition and navigation.
The C10 offers four access levels to the console’s features – Admin, Certified, Express and Lockdown – to provide the appropriate functionality to engineers and staff with different mixing skill levels. For example, the Production Automation interface allows for un-manned operation for overnight or off-peak programming, but if something needs to be changed, the console can be set for Express level skills, enabling a junior engineer to make critical changes without the possibility of changing the entire setup.
The C10 HD also offers a sophisticated dialogue ‘auto-mix’ engine that automatically balances the individual voices, overall volume and ambient noise of a ‘talking heads’ discussion, with minimal operator setup or intervention, thus optimizing the audio mix and avoiding ‘up-cuts’ and missed cues.
The C10 HD provides the same full 5.1 surround mixing capabilities as the C100 HD along with a new 5.1 UpMix algorithm that generates surround imaging from stereo sources. This will allow you to match your facility’s broadcast to other 5.1 material from a network feed or create 5.1 elements from existing stereo material.

The system is compatible with the C100 HD and MORSE products, allowing for integration within a large facility and providing scalable and arbitrated resource sharing.
SSL will also introduce ‘Alpha-Link Live’ and the ‘Alpha-Link 8RMP’, a new range of compact, cost effective I/O options for broadcasters. The new Alpha-Link Live is based upon the highly praised Alpha-Link audio converter range. Alpha-Link Live provides 24 channels of AES/EBU digital and 24 channels of balanced analogue audio conversion to 64 channels of MADI Optical Fibre which interfaces directly to the C10 HD. Alpha-Link Live comes standard with dual PSU functionality, essential in broadcast environments. Alpha-Link 8RMP provides an 8 channel remote mic pre solution, which can be remotely controlled from the C10 HD.
