Harmonic Unveils MediaPrism™ Convergence Suite for Multi-Screen Video Delivery
AMSTERDAM — Sept. 10, 2009 — IBC 2009 Stand 1.C61 — Harmonic Inc. (NASDAQ: HLIT) today introduced the MediaPrism™ convergence suite for multi-screen video delivery to the TV, PC, iPhone and other mobile devices. Deployed by Tier 1 service providers for new mobile and Internet video service trials, MediaPrism is the industry's most comprehensive solution for converged video delivery, uniquely encompassing live and offline content ingest, transformation, delivery and workflow management. The MediaPrism convergence suite is designed to support a variety of emerging mobile and Internet delivery formats, including Microsoft® Silverlight™, Apple® adaptive HTTP Live Streaming and Adobe® Flash®, in addition to legacy mobile video formats, existing broadcast TV and video-on-demand services.
Key elements of the MediaPrism suite include:
• Content Ingest: Harmonic's CLEARcut™ offline and LIVEcut™ real-time content preparation solutions make it possible for service providers to capture and prepare assets for multi-screen viewing. CLEARcut prepares assets from tape or DVD sources while LIVEcut is a highly scalable solution for live ingest and content export that offers a unique and newly expanded set of capabilities.
• Transformation: At IBC 2009, Harmonic is introducing the new ProStream™ 5000 file-based universal transcoder powered by Carbon Coder™ technology. The ProStream 5000 is a carrier-grade Flash memory-based server capable of transcoding up to 16 video assets simultaneously, and supports the full range of codecs and formats available with Harmonic's market-leading Carbon Coder software. Harmonic's ProStream 4000 live transcoder and the new ProStream 5000 both support new mobile streaming formats including Apple adaptive HTTP Live Streaming and Microsoft Smooth Streaming for Silverlight, in addition to other legacy formats.
• Delivery: Harmonic is also debuting the StreamLiner® 3000 video streaming servers, a new family of high-performance multimedia servers designed to deliver thousands of streams for a variety of applications including centralized VOD distribution, regional receiving agents, and large-scale content delivery network (CDN) architectures. StreamLiner works seamlessly with Harmonic's Armada® adaptive asset management software for multi-screen video delivery and supports HTTP progressive download, Apple iPhone, Microsoft Silverlight, Adobe Flash and UDP streaming.
• Workflow: The MediaPrism Workflow Manager, being introduced at IBC 2009, is a digital media workflow engine that efficiently automates the flow of assets throughout the content ingest, transformation and delivery process. It can control scheduling, recording and playout for the full suite of MediaPrism software, in addition to other key functions such as ADI metadata processing and interfaces, EPG parsing and secure content delivery. MediaPrism's open, standards-based architecture ensures interoperability with external components including streaming servers, DRM, storage, metadata and EPG sources.
"The MediaPrism convergence suite is a comprehensive and integrated set of software applications designed to leverage service providers' existing infrastructure while enabling new mobile and Internet video services that offer an ‘anytime, anywhere' user experience and bring incremental revenue potential to the operator," said Thierry Fautier, director of telco solutions for Harmonic Inc. "All elements of the MediaPrism suite are built on open standards and can easily integrate with third-party components, providing a complete solution that is easy to deploy and delivers a high-quality video service to numerous devices, including the iPhone, smartphones, PCs, cable/IPTV set-top boxes and other IP-enabled devices."
