Triveni Digital & Harris Corporation Automation Enables Broadcasters to Satisfy FCC R&O

Interface Ensures Smooth Exchange of Data for Enhanced PSIP Schedule Accuracy

PRINCETON, N.J. -- April 4, 2008 -- Triveni Digital, a subsidiary of LG Electronics (LGE), and Harris Corporation (NYSE:HRS), an international communications and information technology company, have co-developed an interface enabling a seamless exchange of data between the Triveni Digital GuideBuilder™ PSIP (Program and System Information Protocol) generation system and the Harris® H-Class™ ADC-1000™ playout automation system. The new interface leverages the ATSC PMCP protocol to allow ADC-1000 users to maintain PSIP schedules that reflect reality, including automated generation and delivery of last-minute changes. Thus, the solution supports compliance with the recent FCC report and order (R&O) addressing PSIP data.

“Accurate PSIP generation is critical not only to the integrity and quality of DTV broadcasts, but also to compliance with federal regulations for DTV service provision,” said Dr. Richard Chernock, chief technology officer at Triveni Digital. “Through our work with Harris, we have created a smooth flow of data by which the automation system can perform last-minute updates to the PSIP schedule. Through this communication, the GuideBuilder continues to offer our shared clients the functionality required for high-quality content delivery in compliance with FCC orders.”

Mandated by the FCC, PSIP forms the foundation for ATSC digital television transport streams and is important for digital cable carriage of over-the-air (OTA) broadcasts. Addressing the 2009 digital switchover, the GuideBuilder PSIP generator from Triveni Digital adheres to the latest changes in the PSIP standard as dictated by the recent FCC R&O. New features include fully automated redundancy, enhancements to support centralized PSIP compliance, and tight integration with multiplexers and automation systems. Use of the industry-standard PMCP protocol as an interface between the GuideBuilder system and Harris automation ensures reliable sharing of critical PSIP schedule information.

The GuideBuilder system provides mission-critical operational capabilities for both content providers and network operators by generating accurate PSIP data. Errors in PSIP data can cause lapses in the DTV signal, problems with closed captioning, v-chip data, and errors with electronic program guides (EPG) -- all significant concerns for broadcasters. GuideBuilder is also applicable to cable and IPTV networks in meeting their DTV signaling and EPG needs.
