NUCOMM NEWSCASTER DR 2 DIVERSITY RECEIVER DEBUTS AT IBC 2008
Newscaster DR 2 introduces Split Box form factor for Wideband Digital Receiver
The Netherlands, Amsterdam, September 30, 2008 — Nucomm, Inc., a brand of The Vitec Group, and a leading provider of digital and analog microwave systems for the broadcast industry, common carrier, cable, government, military and international marketplace, unveiled the Newscaster DR 2 diversity receiver at IBC 2008. The updated model of its industry leading predecessor, the Newscaster DR, offers new features including a split box design philosophy and the ability to receive UHF digital signals in the 150 to 850MHz band.
Since the DR2 is designed to receive lower frequency UHF digital signals, the unit works seamlessly with external block down converters (BDC). The DR2 can be supplied with BDCs that can receive a wide range of frequencies from 1.99 GHz to 7.1GHz, depending on customer requirements and downconvert the transmission to a usable range.
“The architecture of the DR 2 offers communication between the external BDCs and the main receive unit, enabling the system to operate in different modes, such as wideband, tuned 1 or tuned 2 modes, providing our customers with far more flexibility than similar systems on the market,” says Nucomm CEO Dr. John Payne.
The DR 2 is capable of receiving up to four RF inputs from the external block down converters. This allows for the use of four high gain sector antennas that deliver seamless video reception of a mobile or camera mounted transmitter. Through the use of maximum ration combining technology, the unit delivers outstanding robust COFDM reception combined with superb sensitivity and selectivity characteristics. The DR 2 is complete with an integrated COFDM demodulator, an MPEG2 HD/SD decoder, internal power supply, an integrated spectrum analyzer and on screen display.
