Wohler Introduces First 16-Channel Audio Monitor

HAYWARD, Calif. — Sept. 8, 2008 — Wohler Technologies Inc., today announced that the company will showcase a new audio monitor based on the acclaimed WohlerPlus modular platform at IBC2008. Developed to meet broadcasters' demand for a dedicated monitoring solution, the new AMP2-16MSDI provides instantaneous display for up to 16 channels of embedded audio within a single multirate HD/SD-SDI signal.

"Broadcasters today are challenged with program productions that require several audio channels, and the AMP2-16MSDI meets this need with an elegant solution to this complex problem. The AMP2-16MSDI features an intuitive interface with configurable metering options and clear analysis of required DTV loudness standards," said Carl Dempsey, Wohler president and CEO. "The AMP2-16MSDI is the first Wohler audio monitor to support 16 channels simultaneously, consolidating multichannel audio monitoring within a compact footprint that has the superior aural fidelity and quality associated with the Wohler name."

Built on a fully digital system architecture featuring multiple high-fidelity class-D amplifiers, the AMP2-16MSDI provides unsurpassed near field monitoring for any mix of stereo and mono sources in a compact 2U design. The unit includes demuxed outputs of eight AES pairs on unbalanced 75-ohm BNC connectors and also provides a reclocked loop output of the SDI signal.

The AMP2-16MSDI features a high-resolution LCD display with colorful 210-segment high-resolution bar graph level meters. Colors and settings for scale and range are user-selectable along with several predefined scales and ballistics including AES, BBC, and Nordic. Each displayed meter set clearly indicates the phase for stereo sources prior to output on the speakers. The AMP2-16MSDI audio monitor also addresses key issues in DTV audio delivery, providing measurement of program loudness in adherence with ITU-1770/1771, which is displayed prominently on the unit's LCD status screen.

The AMP2-16MSDI is delivered with a default operating configuration but offers operators up to four user-definable presets that store and recall all parameters selected or adjusted by the user. All functions are also accessible via Ethernet with an optional PC-compatible application. A unique feature of the remote application is the availability to display the meters on a large screen or projector.

The HD/SD-SDI version of the AMP2-16MSDI will be shipping in late November 2008 at a suggested retail price of $8,475. Wohler plans to release an AES version in Q4 of 2008 followed by a multirate 3G and Dolby® E version of the system in Q1 of 2009.
