Electrosonic’s AV Expertise Showcased In Three TEA Thea Award-Winning Projects

Electrosonic is proud to have participated in three projects that captured Thea Awards for Outstanding Achievement presented by the Themed Entertainment Association (TEA). Electrosonic, an international A/V integration and design company, was extensively involved with "America I Am: The African American Imprint" (Traveling Exhibition), Amsterdam's "The Heineken Experience" (Branded Experience) and "Disaster!" at Universal Studios Orlando (Attraction Rehab).

Winners of the 16th annual Thea Awards were announced November 17 at the IAAPA trade show in Las Vegas; awards will be presented March 6, 2010 at a gala ceremony at Universal Studios Hollywood.

The Thea Awards recognize and honor excellence in creating outstanding visitor experiences, attractions, exhibits and places. TEA is the only international non-profit association representing the world's leading creators, developers, designers and producers of compelling content for these venues.

Singled out for outstanding achievement in the Traveling Exhibition category, "America I Am: The African American Imprint" juxtaposes artifacts, images and graphics with riveting 21st century media and immersive elements to relate the African American experience in the US. Renowned radio and TV host Tavis Smiley secured sponsorship from Wal-Mart and partnered with travel-exhibit producers AEG/AEI on the project.

The Thea Committee observed that "America I Am" pushes the boundaries of exhibition presentation to tell an important historical story in a fresh and new way. The 12,000-square foot traveling exhibition features 10 galleries, an expansive collection of artifacts, and three theater spaces. It opened January 15, 2009 at the National Constitution Center in Philadelphia and will continue to tour the country for three more years.

Amsterdam's "The Heineken Experience" netted honors in the Branded Experience category. The award-winner reinvented the Heineken Brewery tour to educate and entertain visitors with information about how beer is made and offer them a unique look at the brewing process through immersive storytelling techniques. Visitors see, smell, taste and even help with the process; they can also witness brewing from inside the brew kettles through a unique simulation.

The Thea Committee cited "The Heineken Experience" for raising the bar for corporate experiences worldwide. The breakthrough winner celebrates the world of the customer rather than that of product and speaks in a meaningful way to Heineken's primary audience of 18-30 year olds. "The Heineken Experience" debuted in December 2008 and is visited by more than 350,000 people annually.

"Disaster!" at Universal Studios Orlando is an ingenious reworking of the park's former classic earthquake attraction that uses star power, humor and cutting-edge technologies like the Musion holographic projection system and image capture to reinvigorate the San Francisco earthquake scenario and make every visitor part of the experience. A new over-the-top movie trailer attraction finale offers a surprise twist with Dwayne Johnson sharing star billing with the visitors themselves.

Says Electrosonic's General Manager, Systems Integration, Chris Conte: "We are delighted to be involved in three more TEA Thea Award awards this year following the four award-winners we collaborated on last year. Our staff of technicians and engineers deserve the recognition for this. Our congratulations goes out to our clients and everyone involved with these award-winning projects. We look forward to continued service of the theme park/attraction industry."
