Public broadcasters thinking of deploying a Distributed Transmission System have until May 18, 2009, to get in applications for grants for DTS under the Commerce Department’s Public Telecommunications and Facilities Program. The deadline for other PTFP grants from the National Telecommunications and Information Administration remains Dec. 18, 2008.
The extension comes because the FCC adopted new rules for DTS on Nov. 3.
Under that order, the broadcasters have until Aug. 18, 2009, to apply for licenses under a waiver policy, and must commit to build out the facilities quickly in order to reach former analog viewers left without DTV signals.
