Bridge Technologies Launches microVB: Breakthrough Accuracy and Cost-Effectiveness in Remote IPTV Analysis
OSLO, Norway ― Sept. 12, 2008 ― Bridge Technologies (Oslo, Norway), the leading broadcast and telecommunications monitoring provider, has launched the microVB™, a breakthrough in miniaturised remote monitoring and analysis for IPTV applications. With the microVB™ system, IPTV operators can for the first time gather complete and accurate data about the performance at the viewers’ set-top box, using a cost-effective user-installed monitoring device.
Enabling deep packet inspection without requiring a technician to visit the customer’s home to install the device or diagnose problems, the microVB™ is robust and small enough to be delivered to the customer by mail. Once installed, the microVB™ automatically locates an appropriate server and starts monitoring the quality of the signal received by the set-top box. The microVB™ reports the QoE parameters, allowing remote monitoring and analytics for advanced trouble shooting. Potential savings to the IPTV operator in transport and technician costs are significant.
“Until now, remote analysis of performance at the set-top box has been cumbersome, costly to implement, and not very effective in delivering accurate and useful data,” said Simen Frostad, Chairman, Bridge Technologies. “As a result, the expansion of IPTV is being held back by quality of service issues which operators cannot resolve cost-effectively. With the microVB™ there is at last a way to make advanced end-to-end monitoring and analysis part of a viable business model.”
The microVB™ forms part of Bridge Technologies’ end-to-end IPTV monitoring solution, which also includes the VB1 and VB2 series IP-Probes for analysis at all points in the network. In conjunction with the IP-Probes, the microVB™ can provide valuable comparative analysis and correlation data between the network edge and the set-top box.
The microVB™ is powered from the set-top box without the need for an additional power supply, and requires an absolute minimum of current to run. With a compact form factor (7cm x 13cm x 2cm), the microVB™ is linked to a microVB™ server system located at the central datacenter or headend gathering data from the individual microVB™ devices on the network.
