ENTONE & EDGEWARE PARTNER TO OFFER INTEGRATED IPTV SOLUTION FOR HIGH-GROWTH MARKETS
Industry Leaders Streamline Content Delivery For Rapid Acceleration of IPTV Deployments
Entone, Inc., a leading provider of IPTV home connectivity solutions, and Edgeware, the provider of revolutionary server systems for network deployed on-demand TV, announced today that Entone’s market leading IP video gateways and media hubs are fully integrated with Edgeware’s widely-deployed video-on-demand (VOD) servers.
This collaborative effort provides service operators a more efficient and cost-effective IPTV solution that can be quickly and easily deployed to enable advanced services, such as time-shifted TV, VOD, whole-home digital video recorder (DVR), and online media services, using advanced codecs such as MPEG-4 (H.264/AVC).
“Partnering with a world-class company like Edgeware further strengthens our presence in the market,” said Yves van Hecke, Director of Business Development, EMEA at Entone. “Our complementary technologies will enable service providers to accelerate their time to market, while at the same time, offer subscribers more compelling next-generation TV services.”
Entone’s Connected Home Solutions integrate patent-pending media routing technologies that enable the delivery of live broadcast television and recorded video services throughout a subscriber’s home without requiring new wiring or a set-top box at each TV set, resulting in dramatic cost savings in both capital and operating costs for the operator.
“Our market leading position is due not only to our scalable server architecture solutions, but also through strategic collaborations with best-of-breed partners like Entone,” stated Göran Appelquist, VP of Business Development at Edgeware. “Our field-proven products ensure that our customers get a highly integrated and reliable IPTV solution.”
This development allows service operators to seamlessly upscale their on-demand service as their subscriber base grows. With ultra efficient Edgeware servers delivering 20 Gbps from 1U, operators can scale from powerful centralized configurations to distributed edge deployments, for best total economy. The servers consume just 85W of power, 1U rack space and require virtually no maintenance. Operational costs are dramatically reduced enabling caching of premium content at the edge and avoiding expensive core network and backhaul upgrades for Web TV deployment.

“Europe is a growth market for DTT (digital terrestrial TV) devices with IP connectivity. France, Italy, Spain and the UK are among the countries that have a large base of DTT households that are also enabled with broadband access,” commented Shane Walker, IMS Research Analyst and author of the recently published Market Opportunities for Internet Video to the TV report. “With an integrated solution such as Entone and Edgeware, operators have the opportunity to deliver value-added services such as over-the-top video and VOD without the CAPEX typically associated with an IPTV offering.”
Product demonstrations can be seen at IBC2009 in Amsterdam at the Entone stand (IPTV Zone, stand 701) and at the Edgeware stand (Hall 4, stand A59).
