Sencore poised for growth
I just got done meeting with Ken Christensen, marketing manager for Sencore, who talked to me about where he sees the company going. In January, The Riverside Company acquired Sencore, and John Suranyi was named Sencore's new CEO. Christenson said now the company is looking forward to expanding, through acquisitions and by moving into the global market.
"We're well-positioned to expand our footprint globally," Christensen said. "We're definitely trying to expand into other countries."
The company is also expanding its product line, with 14 new product higlights at NAB. (Yes, that's right — 14!) Among them is the ATX 2000 ATSC-M/H multiplex signal generator. The unit provides a variable broadcasting simulation test environment and can be tailored to specific situations using a comprehensive set of parameter and multiplexing function controls.
The multiplex signal generator is designed to offer an easy-to-use interface, and high-quality RF and ASI outputs, in a stable, portable platform. It will enable engineers to save time and development cost as well as bring products to market quicker to meet the needs of the emerging mobile broadcasting market.
Also on show is the Atlas Modular Receiver Decoder (MRD). The multiformat modular receiver decoder features architecture that allows it to adapt to changes beyond integrated receiver decoders, allowing hardware and software features to be upgraded in the field (often while still in the rack).
It supports several applications by combining dual-channel processing capability with MPEG-2, MPEG-4, 4:2:0, 4:2:2, SD and HD video decoding. With this range of interfaces, the Atlas MRD adapts to virtually any contribution, distribution or backhaul environment while allowing easy upgrade paths to future technologies.
The Atlas MRD 3187B is the next-generation Modular Receiver Decoder from Sencore. The Atlas MRD 3187B expands the functionality of the Atlas MRD 3187A by adding features such as DVB-CI and SCTE35/104 messaging support.
