Fairlight’s Xynergi system
Fairlight (SL1910) is demonstrating the Xynergi controller, Constellation XCS console and Pyxis MT during the NAB Show.
The Xynergi media production center is a desktop editor that features an implementation of self-labeling key switches that can display full-color images, animated icons or text. John Lancken, CEO, showed me how the system can seamlessly edit together, back-to-back formats of almost any format in real time without stopping.
Incorporated into each Constellation XCS digital audio console model is the XCS panel, an Xynergi Center Section. Users can also specify a Constellation XCS without a center panel or with the earlier Binnacle-based center sections.
Key among the presentations is Pyxis-MT. This is an audio and video capture, playback and file transfer system designed for use in audio post production, film dubbing, telecine capture, screening rooms, ADR list preparation and control functions in ADR recording studios. It is a fully featured HD nonlinear recorder/player with a professional 192-track audio recorder in one.
Pyxis is a family of non-linear video player/recorders designed for use in audio post production, film dubbing, telecine capture, screening rooms, ADR list preparation and control functions in ADR recording studios. Pyxis is easily installed on any suitable PC platform running the Windows XP operating system. Pyxis can operate as a standalone system, under the familiar SONY 9 pin control, or as part of a multi-system, facility-wide network using standard Ethernet.
Currently, two products comprise the Pyxis family. These include a Standard Definition player/recorder (PYX-SD) with Genlock and SDI I/Os utilizing the DeckLink card, and an HD/SD player/recorder (PYX-HD) with SDI and Genlock utilizing the DeckLink HD card supporting 4:2:2 uncompressed video for the highest possible video quality.
Both versions support either uncompressed or compressed video formats in NTSC or PAL and at any frame rate including 24 and 23.98 in the HD versions for film productions. In addition Pyxis HD can reference Tri-Level sync as the master timing reference. LTC can be generated at any required rate so Pyxis can easily be used as a master in all dubbing room applications. Pyxis NLV has built-in ADR spotting and list management software. Using the Pyxis ADR manager, recording cues can be easily imported to the Pyxis system. If keyed in externally, dialogue text and auto record In/Out points can be imported to the ADR manager. Dialogue text can be displayed with the picture during the ADR session along with cueing displays (streamers) and beeps for the actors.
