Omneon ProCast CDN™ Brings Blazing Speed to Media File Transfers Over WANs
SUNNYVALE, Calif. -- April 12, 2008 -- Omneon, Inc. today introduced ProCast CDN™, a high-performance content distribution platform to optimize file transfers over any IP network, delivering dramatically increased efficiency over great distances. Incorporating advanced WAN acceleration technology, network management, and bandwidth prioritization, ProCast CDN enables organizations to initiate, monitor, and manage transfers of large files between multiple geographic locations faster and easier than ever before. Maximizing the utilization of available network bandwidth, ProCast CDN technology ensures that transfer performance is unaffected by distance or latency, and enables files to be sent around the world in a matter of minutes rather than the hours or days that it might take using traditional methods.
ProCast CDN is a suite of software products that create a transparent, content-aware application layer on top of an existing enterprise network, enabling efficient, cost-effective, secure publication, distribution, and broadcast of content. Advanced management capabilities give the user complete control of the network and transfers, and include: dynamic bandwidth reservation, which allows allocation of bandwidth to specific files or based on pre-set rules; transfer prioritization to assure that more important content can be given priority; and the ability to schedule transfers for the most efficient utilization of the network. Features also include an easy-to-use tracking tool to ensure files are delivered on time to all locations, and accounting statistics for proper billing.
“As the operations of media companies relying on file-based workflows become more geographically dispersed, the need to move content between multiple remote sites becomes more critical,” said Geoff Stedman, vice president of marketing at Omneon. “The Omneon ProCast CDN content distribution system integrated with Omneon MediaGrid™ active storage and Omneon MediaDeck™ and Spectrum™ media servers provides managed, secure, and efficient content distribution across multiple remote sites, dramatically speeding workflows.”
Built on an open, multiprotocol framework, ProCast CDN can support scalable distribution of content in multiple media formats, using both unicast and multicast protocols, and is the only system capable of utilizing both satellite and terrestrial links.
The core technology behind ProCast CDN was obtained by Omneon in its acquisition of Castify Networks in December 2007. ProCast CDN has been fully integrated with all Omneon server and storage products to allow seamless content distribution among the systems whether they are in the next room or on the next continent.
ProCast CDN will be on display at the 2008 NAB Show this month in the Omneon booth SU9620. More information is available online at www.omneon.com.
