NTC Software Systems Group VP John Footen To Address Major Latin American DTV Conference

GLENDALE CA, Sept. 23, 2008—As more countries continue their transition to digital television (DTV), the need for expertise to implement the necessary digital media infrastructures and workflow solutions grows ever more critical. NTC, the world leader in strategic technology consulting and engineering-design services for the media/entertainment industry, is at the forefront of transitioning major broadcast, cable, and satellite content providers to DTV. As part of its renowned thought leadership, NTC will be sending John Footen, the VP responsible for its Software Solutions Group, to present vital information at a major South American DTV conference, in Bogotá Colombia on September 25 and 26.

Titled “(Almost) Stress-Free DTV,” the conference is presented by TVyVIDEO Latinoamerica, a major broadcast industry trade magazine from B2Bportales, Inc., Latin America’s largest trade publisher. The Conference, at the 4 Points Sheraton in Bogotá, expects to draw media/entertainment professionals from throughout Latin America.

“Most countries in Latin America are already deciding which DTV standard to choose,” notes TVyVIDEO Latinoamerica editor Santiago Algorta. “What remains to be seen is the question of the next steps necessary for the implementation of different technologies and business models related to DTV. How can we keep the DTV dream from becoming a nightmare? This two-day seminar will show attendees the challenges that may arise while migrating their operations to digital. It will also provide the conceptual tools, reality checks, and success stories for switching to DTV with less stress and uncertainty.”

“Maximizing the benefits of the DTV transition means converting the broadcast plant to a file-based content-production workflow, management, and delivery architecture,” states Footen. “Essential to this process is leveraging proven data-management solutions from the Information Technology (IT) world. These include Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) and Business Process Management (BPM), which are stable, mature, and have been used by IT departments in banking and other fields for more than a decade. SOA connects media systems as ‘services,’ and allows for easier integration of multiple software and hardware applications within a facility—both now and when new advances become available. BPM is the art of orchestrating those services. As seen in other industries, early adopters of SOA and BPM enjoy greater business agility amid competitive threats. For broadcasters, SOA and BPM offer the agility to respond to new-revenue opportunities in the deployment of next-generation DTV, HDTV, and new- digital content delivery outlets.”

“John Footen’s knowledge of applying IT-derived hardware and software solutions to the media/entertainment industry is comprehensive and greatly sought after,” comments NTC Managing Partner Chuck Phelan. “He has presented at such major industry conferences such as NAB, IBC, and SMPTE. He is also the co-author—with NTC Consultant Joey Faust—of the authoritative volume The Service-Oriented Media Enterprise: SOA, BPM, and Web Services in Professional Media Systems from Focal Press. We are honored to have John provide his expertise at this very important broadcast conference in Bogotá Colombia.”
