Leading Russian TV Network Selects Omneon Spectrum(TM) and MediaDeck(TM) Server Systems for Tapeless Workflow
SUNNYVALE, Calif. -- July 20, 2010 -- Omneon Inc. today announced that CTC Media, a leading TV network in Russia, is using Omneon Spectrum(TM) and Omneon MediaDeck(TM) server systems to support its broadcast of three entertainment channels across six time zones. With an open architecture that eases integration with other best-of-breed broadcast systems, the Omneon server systems provide highly automated and highly reliable playout within the network's new tapeless workflow.
"Changing technology and lack of support for our previous server systems led us to look at a new playout solution, and the Omneon Spectrum and MediaDeck systems offered key benefits that suited our tapeless model," said Alexander Dekevich, chief information officer at CTC Media. "The Omneon server systems enable easier IT integration than competing products, and they come backed with better support and an API that facilitates their optimization within our end-to-end workflow."
Two Spectrum server systems at CTC Media's Moscow facility are used to play out 18 SD channels, and three MediaDeck systems function as full-scale backup, providing independent storage and video I/O modules. Together, these Omneon systems give CTC Media 46 video channels. The facility's Harris(R) D-Series(TM) automation system manages playout and ensures that copies of all on-air clips are also stored on the MediaDeck systems. The Omneon playout platform was provided to CTC Media by Russian systems integrator and broadcast equipment supplier Okno-TV.
"Given the extensive reach and viewership achieved by CTC programming, the reliability of the network's playout systems is of the utmost importance," said Geoff Stedman, senior vice president of marketing and business development at Omneon. "The Omneon installation at CTC demonstrates the flexibility of Omneon server systems in supporting tapeless operations in conjunction with other leading solutions for digital media management and distribution."
