Iconix HD-RH1 Camera System Used by TopVision Telekommunication

Germany‘s Leading Outdoor Broadcast Vehicle Service Provider Uses POV Camera for Soccer, Formula 1 Racing and Winter Sports

Iconix Video, a leading developer of advanced high-definition camera systems and manufacturer of the world‘s smallest professional quality HD video camera, today announced the use of the Iconix HD-RH1 camera system by premier German outdoor broadcast company TopVision Telekommunication for all its outdoor broadcast vehicles.

Based in Berlin, TopVision‘s outdoor broadcast trucks are a familiar sight at Germany‘s largest soccer games, including those for the National League, the Champions‘ League and the UEFA cup. TopVision is employed on a number of high-profile national and international assignments, including the production of five Federal Football League games produced each week for German cable network Premiere, as well as the F1 World Championships, the Ice Hockey World Championships and the FIS Nordic World Skiing Championships.

TopVision‘s outdoor vans boast robust HD technology, including up to 24 Sony HDC-1000, HDC-1500 and HDC-1550 cameras, four Sony HD SuperMotion 3x cameras and four Iconix HD-RH1 camera systems.

“Our goal has always been to offer the newest innovations in HD broadcasting,” commented TopVison‘s COO Eduard Palasan. “The Iconix is very well suited to sports broadcasting because of its size, and because of the high-quality footage it provides. We used 10 Iconix cameras at the Ice Sledge World Cup, many of them in places inaccessible to a conventional Sony HD camera and camera operator. The results were amazing.”

After TopVision used the Iconix cameras to capture World Championship Toboggan action from positions no other camera could obtain, they caught the attention of the German Soccer National League, which started using the cameras at all of its games, even placing them directly behind the goals.

“The Iconix is very easy to set up, and simple to configure,” said Palasan. “Best of all, the camera is very durable, and can even withstand a soccer ball or two!”

A first for a camera this size, the HD-RH1 system can capture and output video in both NTSC and PAL formats in all HD resolutions, including 720p, 1080i and 1080p while supporting frame rates of 24, 25, 30, 50 and 60 frames-per-second (fps). Outputs include HD-SDI (SMPTE 292M) as two single-link 4:2:2, or dual-link 4:4:4 RGB/YCbCr; DVI-I; and analog outputs, with genlocking capability to tri-level sync. Remote control protocols are available over RS-232 or 9-pin DSUB connectors. Power requirements are 30W at 12VDC.

The HD-RH1 incorporates an expansive array of features found only on top-of-the-line HD ENG and EFP camera systems while utilizing an innovative signal processing architecture. This POV camera system, which includes a very robust separate camera head and processing controller unit, is the smallest high performance HD camera in the industry. The lightweight HD-RH1 remote camera system is comprised of a 1.32” x 1.50” x 1.92” POV camera head weighing 2.5 oz.; a 3.5 lb. universal HDTV controller unit measuring 8.4” x 1.8” x 12”; power supply, and 3, 6 and 10 meter cables.
