DR DEPLOYS DALET ENTERPRISE EDITION ACROSS BROADCAST OPERATIONS
For Immediate Release
DaletPlus metadata and workflow engine powers news workflows for 2000 plus users
Levallois-Perret, France – June 9, 2009 – DR, the public service broadcaster of Denmark, has successfully deployed Dalet Enterprise Edition to power its newsroom operations. The system is running in twelve different sites, including all of DR’s regional locations and the new broadcast headquarters in Copenhagen. Its implementation, which required multiple, complex integrations with graphics, broadcast and customized production systems, was carefully planned and executed over a 3-year period.
“This was a very big project with a lot of different workflows,” comments Jan Fredholm, the DR Resource Manager who is responsible for the Dalet systems. “It was critical to find a newsroom computer system that was flexible enough to simultaneously handle multiple channel operations. And because we have many customized systems, we needed seamless integrations and a high level of interoperability to ensure consistent and efficient workflows. The integration expertise of the Dalet Professional Services team and integrator SGI/Silex helped achieve our goals.”
“The functionality and scalability of Dalet Enterprise Edition coupled with the powerful DaletPlus metadata and workflow engine provide an incomparable newsroom solution,” comments Chris Wright, General Manager, Dalet UK. “The DR installation is an excellent example of the flexibility of Dalet Enterprise Edition and it also reflects the technical capabilities of the Dalet Professional Services team. Working closely with DR and Silex, they applied their global experience and engineering skills to deliver the mission-critical integrations needed for a successful project.”
The Dalet Enterprise Edition implementation at DR was carefully staged, beginning with one, then all of the regional radio operations, which were already using Dalet Radio solutions for audio production and radio broadcasting. The project progressed to the principal radio and television networks, totaling more than two thousand client workstations and five distinct databases connected together serving the various DR sites. At DR, Dalet Enterprise Edition provides a comprehensive, editorially driven workflow for news operations including multi-language wire ingest, scripting, story templates, powerful assignment and planning tools, multi-level rundown support with story status, advanced timing management and on-air show time tracking. Based on tightly controlled rights and permissions, Dalet also simplified the ability to control and share content exchanges among different operations. The show-tracking and metadata management capabilities in Dalet Enterprise Edition also enable DR to automate the publication of video news content to their websites, greatly extending their editorial reach.
Dalet supports a long list of industry standard protocols such as MOS, XML and SOAP to provide extensive support for graphics, still stores and prompters, as well as purpose-built integrations that provide functionalities that go beyond the scope of traditional protocols. This brings a lot more flexibility and power when it comes to integrate systems such as DR’s customized Media Archive, which is used to manage the television channels’ video production workflows.
