NUCOMM DEBUTS PROQ LOW LATENCY AUDIO MULTIPLEXER AT NAB 2009
LAS VEGAS, NV, APRIL 20, 2009 – Nucomm, part of The Vitec Group’s RF Extreme business unit, and a leading provider of digital and analog microwave systems for the broadcast industry, common carrier, cable, government, military and international marketplace, is debuting its ProQ Low Latency Audio Multiplexer (LLAM) at NAB 2009 (Booth C3707). Refined for maximum reliability and low latency, the ProQ LLAM has been optimized to work with the ProQ Receiver to facilitate multiplexing of audio into the ATSC signal. These two components used together create the complete ProQ Digital IFB system.
“As media outlets move to digital transmissions, many television stations are searching for new and better ways to provide IFB communications with remote on-air talent and crews,” says VP of Engineering, John Payne IV. “With the introduction of Nucomm’s ProQ LLAM, users are now able to send audio cuing over the DTV signal. The Nucomm ProQ Digital IFB system offers compelling advantages over traditional analog IFB systems as well as expensive cellular systems.”
Featuring the ability to multiplex as many as eight IFB channels while only occupying 200kbps of the ATSC signal, the ProQ LLAM single-rack-unit supports up to eight GPI signals to provide functions such as tally light control. The incoming audio is encoded by MPEG Layer 1/Layer2 audio encoders, multiplexed with the GPI, Ethernet and RS232 signals, and then inserted into the transport stream. A breakout box provides for the audio and GPI signals, connecting to the ProQ LLAM via a rear-panel 50-pin connector. The ProQ LLAM also features a full-color OLED panel for system monitoring and control.
When the ProQ LLAM is utilized in conjunction with the ProQ Digital IFB receiver, extended features are optionally enabled. These optional features include, full AES 128 or 256 encryption of the audio and data channels as well as a general purpose contact closure that can facilitate Remote Tally indication and the ability to push down future software enhancements over the ATSC channel. To facilitate remote controls Ethernet and RS232 encapsulation can be added as an option.
