DK-Technologies Shows Its Latest Colour Analyser Kit At NAB

DK-Technologies will be using the NAB 2008 platform to show a colour analyser set that measures both CRT and LCD monitors.

The PM5639 CRT/LCD KIT, which will be on show at the company‘s booth (N1533), includes an LCD probe, a CRT probe and a display unit. The LCD probe has a stand to hold it steady in front of the monitor screen, while the CRT probe comes with a suction cup to secure it to the screen. The entire set is packaged in a handy flightcase, making it easy to transport and offering it protection when it is not in use.

DK-Technologies is targeting the PM5639 CRT/LCD KIT at broadcast and post production facilities, particularly those who are making the switch from CRT to LCD and need an easy to use product that can calibrate both types of monitor.

Richard Kelley, the company‘s Sales and Marketing director, says: “Monitor performance is critical and calibration needs to be done regularly to ensure best results, especially in today‘s world where there is an increasing interchange of programme material from different sources such as TV studios and production houses. DK‘s colour analysers have been developed over many years and are recognised as industry standard thanks to their consistency, accuracy, ease of use and - above all - value for money.”

The LCD colour probe is specially designed for white point alignment of LCD monitors. Its slim design means that it can be used on any size LCD screen without touching the screen itself, thus avoiding any change of screen characteristics. The probe‘s design also makes it possible to measure changes in the monitor‘s colour and luminance when viewed from the side.

Both probes use proprietary, highly stable dichroic optical filters to split the screen light into its colour components, which is necessary in order to determine the chromaticity coordinates of the screen. They are also designed to provide automatic colour balance alignment for a wide range of manufacturer‘s monitors.

The set‘s display unit, which can be independently connected to both probes, shows the relative red, green and blue components as bars for easy alignment of the monitor. It can also display luminance in footlamberts and candelas per square meter, chromaticity coordinates xy and u‘v‘, correlated colour temperature, and colour error deltaE.

Although both probes can be bought separately, the combined set is a far more cost effective option, particularly as DK-Technologies is offering a free re-calibration service after the probes have been in use for 18 months.
