AKG launches new C 214 recording microphone
At the recent AES Europe convention in Amsterdam, AKG Acoustics announced an addition to the C 414 family: the new C 214 recording microphone. The new model uses the company’s 1in edge-terminated capsule technology, engineered for ultra-low self-noise.
The C 214 sports a double mesh metal grille that ensures high RF immunity without affecting acoustical performance. A switchable 20dB attenuation pad enables the C 214 to handle up to 156dB SPL, and a low-cut switch eliminates unwanted rumble. The C 214 has road-tough construction quality with a modern scratch-resistant finish, a dent-resistant metal grille and a gold-plated XLR-type output. It comes complete with a spider-type shock mount, windscreen and metal carrying case.
Found in most recording studios, the legendary C 414 is used by leading broadcast facilities the world over. "The evolution of the C 414 has been informed by feedback from recording studios, broadcast stations and live sound engineers," said Thomas Stubics, AKG product manager. "Our new C 214 was designed as a budget-friendly alternative to the leading-edge C 414 family. Because the C 214 uses the same 1in diaphragm as the C 414, the essence of that heralded C 414 sound has been captured in this newest model."
