Apple rolls out Final Cut Studio for HD editing

published Apple has unveiled Final Cut Studio. The suite includes new versions of Final Cut Pro, Motion and DVD Studio Pro, and Soundtrack Pro, a new audio editing and design tool.
Highlights include:
- Final Cut Pro 5: Adds native HDV (long GOP MPEG-2) support; has a multicam tool that can cut from up to 128 sources at the same time with real-time playback from 16 angles at a time; an IMX codec for native editing in Sony’s XDCAM format; support for Panasonic’s P2 solid state media; and an enhanced RT Extreme engine to allow uncompressed HD effects to be viewed in real time.
- Soundtrack Pro: A new audio editing and sound design application; features a waveform editor with flexible Action layers that lets users re-order, bypass or change any edit, effect or process; an integrated multitrack mixer; 5000 sound effects and musical Apple Loops; and AppleScript automation of repetitive audio tasks for video production.
- Motion 2: Real-time motion graphics software that combines motion graphics with GPU accelerated 32-bit float rendering; features a Replicator to animate any number of duplicated movies or graphics along user-defined grids or patterns; has more than 130 accelerated filters; and third-party plug-in support.
- DVD Studio Pro 4: DVD authoring program supports burning HD projects to high-definition DVDs based on the latest HD-DVD specification; features distributed encoding tools to reduce encoding time.
