Belgium’s Watch TV picks Genesis Networks for video transmission
Genesis Networks, a provider of fiber and satellite video transmission services, has announced that Brussels-based Watch TV, a production house serving global news organizations, has installed its IRIS customer control software.
IRIS, a Web-based software platform, allows users to book, reserve and monitor fiber transmissions for news organizations throughout the world. Watch TV now has complete control over the bandwidth, routing and scheduling of its video transmission services.
Prior to installing the IRIS software, Watch TV had a single fiber link, which was used to send video reports to the Radio Télévision belge de la Communauté française (RTBF) transmission center in Brussels, which would then uplink the reports via satellite, usually through the European Broadcasting Union (EBU).
Though Watch TV still uses this fiber-to-satellite method for some clients, it now has a new fiber link dedicated to IRIS. With IRIS, as soon as a journalist calls with a date and time he or she needs to transmit a report, Watch TV can make the satellite booking through the software’s Web-based interface, which automatically transfers it over fiber to the satellite uplink for transmission.
