Thirteen Chinese broadcasters are using Clear-Com products within 14 OB vans covering this year’s Beijing Olympic Games.
All are depending on Clear-Com’s Eclipse Digital Matrix, in different configurations, to serve as the main communications system for crews working on-site in Chinas. The typical OB van setup features Clear-Com’s 32-port Eclipse digital matrix system and I-Series control panels with built-in microphone headset connections along with four display key modules and a keypad. The Eclipse system can run 24/7, reinforced by built-in layers of redundancy.
In addition to Clear-Com’s Eclipse Digital Matrix frames, many of the broadcasters have added FreeSpeak10 digital wireless beltpacks to provide fully integrated communications for their production teams. Based on a cellular architecture, the 1.9GHz system operates on DECT technology that allows up to 10 beltpacks to roam seamlessly between remote active antennas.
CCTV, China’s national broadcaster, has purchased a large intercom system that will serve as the main communications network during the Olympics and includes two of Clear-Com’s Eclipse Omega systems with 120 ports in total. This will form the heart of the network at the International Broadcasting Center, the hub of all broadcasting activities for the Olympic Games, and CCTV’s new Television Culture Center, which will house administration along with news, broadcasting, studios and program production.
