Daktronics LED technology brightens California Speedway’s scoring
California Speedway, in San Bernardino County, will debut brighter scoring results in time for the February 2008 West Coast Premiere of NASCAR on its 146ft four-sided scoring pylon.
Daktronics will design and manufacture the digits using LED technology to be retrofitted on the current pylon structure. The speedway will update from an incandescent system to reduce time and resources spent on maintenance.
The red LED digits will show current race results in addition to the lap number in 18in and 30in digits. This will offer greater visibility to the racing fans throughout the track.
LEDs offer greater visibility and lower power and maintenance requirements when compared to incandescent bulbs, and because they are solid-state devices, they are much less susceptible to vibration damage. Advantages of LED technology over incandescent bulbs include a reduction of power usage by approximately 90 percent. More robust LED technology also can be expected to last up to 15 times longer than incandescent lamp technology.
