Dielectric to supply San Francisco’s Sutro Tower
Sutro Tower has selected Dielectric to supply its TV and radio tower site in San Francisco. The new equipment — to be installed over the next three years — will benefit the 11 television, five FM radio, and 20 other commercial companies who lease space on the tower.
The equipment will help to complete the facility’s transition to digital broadcasting, improve the systems coverage area and allow the television broadcasters who use the tower to provide maximized DTV service to Bay Area customers.
The Sutro Tower installation will include Dielectric’s TFU-WB UHF slot cavity antennas, TFU-JSC/VP high-power pylon antennas, and TUC and TUA wideband UHF panel antennas, as well as the related combiners, transmission lines and other supporting components.
Gene Zastrow, Sutro Tower’s general manager, said the new equipment will enable it to meet the FCC’s digital TV mandate while overcoming the current limitations of not being able to broadcast in full-power.
