Digital TV to reach nearly 100 million Western European household by 2010

By the end of the year, nearly 46 million western European households are expected to receive digital TV, up 25 percent for the year, according to a new report from market researcher Informa Telecoms & Media.

That number will exceed 50 million in 2006 and nearly double by 2010, according to the ninth edition of Informa's Western European Television report forecasts.

By the end of 2005, the UK is expected to account for 34.6 percent of the region's digital total, followed by France with 15.3 percent and Germany and Italy both with 13.7 percent. The UK will drop to 21.6 percent of the total by 2010, despite adding more than 5 million digital subscribers in 2005. Germany will increase its share to 25 percent by 2010.
