Dolby to Demo Dolby Digital Plus for HD at AES
Dolby will showcase its new Dolby Digital Plus for HD packaged media at the AES Convention in San Francisco.
The peak date rate extends the Dolby Digital format from 640 kbps up to 6 Mbps. Dolby Digital Plus offers discrete channel coverage beyond the current 5.1 standard, such as 7.1.
During the convention, Dolby will showcase technologies such as multichannel audio production. Attendees can watch clips from the 46th Grammy Awards telecast in Dolby Digital 5.1 and HDTV. The Dolby Pro Logic II that provides surround sound will also be on display. The pitch shift tool Dolby 585 will also be on display.
Dolby representatives will present papers on audio coding, posters as well as psychoacoustics, perception and listening tests.
Additionally, AES workshops featuring Dolby personnel will take place, including, "Spatial Coding of Surround Sound" and "Mastering for Low-Bit Rate Perceptual Codecs."
