Gefen brings new KVM extension systems to AES 2009
At AES 2009, Gefen introduced two new solutions working with the digital resolutions of DVI displays, high-speed USB 2.0 peripherals and audio peripherals. Both the DVI-3500HD and CAT5-1600HD are designed to remove noisy computer peripherals away from editing bays and studio production suites.
The DVI-3500HD system relies on four strands of LC fiber-optic cable to connect a computer to its display, allowing its associated keyboard and mouse to be located up to 6600ft (2km) away. The fiber-optic cabling links the sender unit at the remote computer to the receiver unit at the studio workstation. DVI video at 1920 x 1200 resolutions, analog audio, USB 2.0 peripherals and RS-232 control signals are transmitted instantly from source to display. A feature of this KVM extender is the ability to connect a display and USB peripherals at both local (studio) and remote (computer) locations, allowing users to switch between then using a front-panel switch on the sender unit. The receiver unit is also equipped with four USB ports, allowing for hard drives, printers and scanners to be connected.
Gefen’s CAT5-1600HD system uses Cat 5 and Cat 6 cabling to extend KVM peripherals up to 250ft from the computer. Sender and receiver units are connected by one Cat 6 cable that carries video resolutions at 1920 x 1200 in the DVI format and one Cat 5 cable that carries high-speed USB 2.0 peripherals. The use of standard cables cuts costs while delivering a reliable and stable method of computer extension. Like the DVI-3500HD, the CAT5-1600HD comes equipped with a four-port USB hub on the receiver unit for increased productivity and flexibility.
