All of the images displayed on large video projection and small LCD screens throughout the Staples Center in Los Angeles for this year’s Grammy Awards, as well as a variety of interstitial elements, were played off six Profile PDR 300 servers.
The Grass Valley Profile XP Media Platform and PDR video server from Thomson played a major part in the production of the live performances at the 48th Annual Grammy Awards telecast on CBS in SD and HD last week.
The Profiles helped streamline the production of the live broadcast by providing unlimited and immediate access to images stored as digital files.
NEP Supershooters sent its SS24 all-digital HD truck for teleproduction of the awards show. SS24 has the Grass Valley Concerto and Trinix video routing switchers on board and a full complement of Grass Valley Kameleon signal conversion modules.

Six Grass Valley PDR 300 SD Profile servers and three PVS 2000 Profile HD servers (four 1080i channels each) were on site in Los Angeles.
The Profiles were connected via a fiber channel network to move clips quickly. Among the PVS 2000 HD Profile servers, configured with two internal HD MPEG I-Frame or Long GOP encoders, eight channels were dedicated for playback of the main show graphic elements, while four supported the lower-third graphic backplates used for on-screen character generation during the HD telecast.
