Grass Valley provides one-stop shop for ATSC Mobile DTV broadcasting
Grass Valley chose NAB2009 to unveil its complete ATSC Mobile TV broadcasting solution, which gives broadcasters and service providers a one-stop shop for test and evaluation solutions that can go on to provide a full commercial offering.
The new mobile TV system is fully integrated and provides all the equipment necessary to take a broadcast feed and transmit it to mobile devices. The system is built on Grass Valley's new ATSC-M/H software module for the ADAPT-IV digital exciter, which is incorporated in the Elite, DCX Paragon and DCX Millennium transmitter families. Adding this software module to proven transmitter lines makes it easy for stations to make their initial forays into mobile TV delivery.
At the headend, a new version of the Grass Valley ViBE mobile TV encoding platform provides compression and, together with the NetProcessor 9030 multiplexer, creates a fully ATSC-M/H-compatible transport stream. These can be used in conjunction with the Grass Valley Jade electronic service guide generator, and the entire system can be managed centrally using the XMS service management platform.
