Harmonic pushes on-demand IP services
Harmonic is marketing new digital video processing solutions and broadband access transport systems for delivering IP-based broadcast and on-demand services in a cable environment.
The company said IP-based technologies enabled more personalized viewing experiences. The company is currently deploying an IP-based digital headend and edge and access systems that enable cable operators to offer video-over-DSL services.
Harmonic’s NSG family of edgeQAMs and HFC transport systems power video-on-demand (VOD) services for cable operators, including nine of the 10 largest cable operators in North America. The company has created an on-demand system encompassing content creation, ingest, distribution and delivery based on the Armada intelligent asset manager and StreamLiner video servers.
The new solutions leverage ultra-low bandwidth SD and HD MPEG-2 and MPEG-4 AVC (H.264) video compression based on the latest generation of the company’s Electra encoders. If offers video delivery to IP-enabled devices such as PCs and mobile devices.
