QUALCOMM will use Harris broadcast transmission equipment for its MediaFLO mobile TV trial with PCCW, the largest provider of communications services in Hong Kong. This is the third international MediaFLO mobile TV trial to use Harris transmitters to deliver multimedia content to mobile handsets.
The Hong Kong trial will use Harris Ranger FLO transmitters with Harris Apex FLO exciters, both of which address FLO air interface requirements for transmission. FLO technology is a key component of QUALCOMM’s MediaFLO system.
The Harris Ranger FLO transmitter is a low-power transmitter that’s based on the Harris Ranger ATSC transmitter for terrestrial digital TV transmission in the United States. The air-cooled design of the Harris Ranger platform makes it ideal for MediaFLO network deployments.
Previous trials that Harris has supported include BSkyB in the UK, and China Network Systems and Taiwan Television Enterprisein Taiwan.
