Holophone H4 licensed to include Dolby Pro Logic
Holophone announced at NAB2007 that the H4 SuperMini camera-mountable surround microphone has been licensed to include Dolby Laboratories' Dolby Pro Logic II encoding technology. Designed for field capture of spatially accurate surround sound, the H4 SuperMini with Dolby Pro Logic II encoding will provide matrix-encoded multichannel audio in two channels while still using existing analogue or digital stereo infrastructure. The viewer's home receiver then decodes the matrixed surround information back into surround sound.
Holophone CEO Jonathan Godfrey notes that the addition of Dolby Pro Logic II to the H4 SuperMini provides an easy-to-implement surround-sound solution, making the transition from stereo to 5.1 relatively seamless in a wide range of productions. As with other Holophone products, the H4 SuperMini provides surround-sound capture without requiring additional system upgrades or software. The elliptical design and multiple mic capsules capture sound in the same manner as the human head for a natural sound.
Audio captured via Dolby-ready H4 SuperMini can be accurately decoded into surround sound using any Dolby Pro Logic II decoder as well as other compatible matrix decoders on the market. There are more than 53 million Dolby Pro Logic II decoders in consumer devices.
