Link Research unveils wireless camera control via mobile phone

At IBC2008, Link Research showed a new remote control facility for its wireless cameras that relies on a mobile phone network to let engineers monitor their wireless cameras and receivers remotely from a central location of via a mobile phone.

The company is providing the new remote control facility for cellular diversity newsgathering networks in cities and large outdoor sports venues where wireless cameras roam throughout an area covered by multiple fixed receivers.

Using the central control system or a mobile phone, the technical team can monitor whether a camera is operating within the area of RF coverage and make sure it is operating on the right frequency. RF transmission also can be turned on and off and the frequency in use can be changed remotely.

The mobile phone is a standard GPRS handset that links to the camera control connection on the Link transmitter attached to the camera. A built-in GPS shows where the camera is located so that it can be pinpointed on a map.
