Microvision signs deal with OEM to private-label Pico Projector
If your objection to mobile TV is the teeny screen, a private-label version of Microvision's Pico Projector laser projector will soon appear on retailer shelves, thanks to a partnership between Microvision and an unnamed "global consumer electronics OEM." The partnership is tied to a marketing and distribution agreement between Microvision and the "Asian distribution partner" who also has purchased Microvision’s branded product, SHOWWX, for distribution within the Asia-Pacific region.
Previewed at CES 2009, SHOWWX uses Microvision's Pico Projector display engine technology to project large DVD-resolution images and offers a plug-and-play projector for mobile TV, movies, photos and presentations. Users can carry it anywhere and plug it into portable media players, mobile phones, notebooks and other mobile media devices with TV out or VGA functionality to share the screen with others. It requires no projection lenses or focus adjustment regardless of projection distance, producing widescreen images as small as 12in to as large as 150in across.
The Asian distribution partner and global consumer electronics OEM are both planning their own marketing launch activities and say that the products will be available in the near future.
