Junger Audio Level Magic 5.1 Suite
Junger Audio, a Berlin, Germany-based audio processing provider, will showcase new audio cards for professional broadcast at IBC2009.
Designed specifically for satellite digital rebroadcasting, Junger’s new ESDI card controls loudness for all incoming signals. Each SDI card runs independently—the signals don’t need to be locked to a house reference.
The ESDI card combines one SDI interface with one DSP unit that automatically handles individual audio loudness processing. It is designed for digital satellite TV where SDI based incoming signals don’t match a uniform synchronization and have widely varying levels. The basic version comes with an SD-SDI interface and offers 4-channels of LEVEL MAGIC processing. It can be upgraded to HD-SDI and to 8-channel Level Magic Surround via a software license key.
Each ESDI card C8486 receives one TV channel through its SDI interface and then instantly processes that channel before retransmitting it to the encoder. With ESDI in place, there is no need for synchronization and no change in the spectral range—just well controlled dynamics regardless of the type or quality of the input. Junger Audio’s C8000 frames allow users to stack up to 16 different cards, thus providing 16 SDI channels.
Also on display will be the European launch of Junger’s ANA Series of input/processing cards, designed to help terrestrial rebroadcasters tackle loudness and synchronization issues.
Providers of broadcast signals (including cable TV, hotels, airports, etc.), have long been plagued by widely varying source input levels and desynchronized signals. To revolve these issues, the often have to make several manual corrections a day to achieve more acceptable loudness results for their viewers, and often the results are far from perfect. The ANA Series cards are specifically designed for analog cable TV headends, where analog incoming signals don’t match a uniform synchronization and have widely varying levels. With ANA cards, all of the synchronization and loudness issues that occur when rebroadcasting incoming signals before sending them to modulators are corrected. The Series consists of frames comprising either 8 or 16 analog/DSP input/processing cards. Each card combines an analog interface with a DSP unit to automatically control the individual loudness processing for each pair of TV channels entering the card.
Junger will also demonstrate a complete suit of DSP and interface cards for its C8000 LEVEL MAGIC automated loudness control system for production and broadcast. LEVEL MAGIC will be shown in a complete setup that offers a fully integrated wofkrlow solution for managing surround sound and Dolby-coded 5.1 audio signals in production, ingest and playout.
Junger Audio’s LEVEL MAGIC is a sophisticated adaptive level control algorithm designed to adjust the level from any source at any time, with no pumping, breathing or distortion. It is based on a simultaneous combination of an AGC, a transient Processor for fast changes and a “look ahead” Peak Limiter for continuous unattended control of any program material, regardless of its original source.
