New Manual Pedestal Tracking Solution for Virtual Studios

Robotics broadcast systems provider Vinten Radamec has introduced the Quattro SE: a compact, manually operated, lightweight pedestal with built-in encoders for integration into virtual studios.

The Quattro SE has an ergonomically assisted lifting column and a convenient doorway width. Precision encoders are integrated into the wheels and column, providing precise real-time digital electronic positioning over the floor and during elevation, according to Vinten Radamec.

The company also developed an algorithm that uses motion data from seven encoders to provide an error correction estimate, which negates the impact of "scrubbing" (wheel dragging). The company indicated that this design improves accuracy.

Two electronics modules, a base processor, and a head processor together deliver more accurate position data for all axes. The Quattro SE also has a PDA, which provides the configuration and operational user interface that gives useful positional feedback and calibration data plus a simpler virtual studio setup.

Output from the pedestal is integrated with position feedback from the 950E and 250E head and lens into a single clocked channel to the rendering system of a virtual software image generator.
