NewTek offers TriCaster upgrade guarantee

NewTek has started the NAB Upgrade Guarantee Program, a deal that allows customers to trade up any TriCaster portable live production system purchased between Jan. 15 and June 27, 2009, for full purchase price credit toward any new TriCaster product introduced last month at the 2009 NAB Show.

TriCaster systems are popular for streaming live or taped sports content to viewers on the Web. With a TriCaster, anyone can simultaneously produce, stream live, broadcast and project a production. A single operator or small team can produce a live show while switching between as many as six cameras with two DDRs, multichannel effects and NewTek’s LiveSet virtual sets.

Recently, Newtek released Version 2.5, a software update to all its TriCaster models that adds the ability to record video in MPEG-2, capturing full 4:2:2 color sampling, which is important when recording chroma key footage. In addition, enhancements to the real-time MPEG-2 encoding technology yield significant improvements in quality with a lower compression rate for broadcast-quality video recording.

Newtek said the upgrade improves the user experience for both live and on-demand content with support for Adobe Flash Media Live Encoder 3. It also offers an enhanced user experience with the H.264 streaming format, simultaneous streams at multiple bit rates and improved streaming quality at reduced bit rates.

Newtek said the NAB offer allows customers to lock in full trade-in value on their current TriCaster gear, should they choose to trade up to a newer model.
