Ohio telco expands IPTV service with TANDBERG headend gear
Horizon Chillicothe Telephone, an Ohio communications company, has selected the iPlex video headend from TANDBERG Television to expand its multichannel service that’s based on a VDSL ATM network. The system takes advantage of the iPlex’s high-density encoding and bit rate reduction capabilities to expand its integrated voice, Internet and digital TV service by more than 45 new video channels, in both HD and SD. Horizon will also replace the video processing on more than 20 existing 130 SD channels with MPEG-2 encoding and transrating from TANDBERG.
Supporting up to eight SD or HD MPEG-2 or MPEG-4 AVC encoders in a single chassis, the TANDBERG iPlex video headend is a 1RU compact solution designed for regional distribution, headend expansion and smaller-scale IPTV deployments. It provides a cost-effective video turnaround solution for telcos looking to deliver HD programming from primary sources or aggregators for re-broadcast over IP or ATM networks without the need for decoding and re-encoding.
The iPlex system enables a new level of converged services over any last mile (ADSL, FTTH and CATV) by providing high-quality video encoding and MPEG-2 to MPEG-4 transcoding, video multiplexing and demultiplexing, routing, video rate shaping, stream replication, and ATM to IP conversion.
