Comprehensive Video Group has introduced the CVC-C5E+/HR, a new Cat 5e+ cable, which is suitable for data and high resolution video. Creative Frontier has launched its ClickVision suite of software and services, which turns specific images within full-motion video into active links that take users to informative, promotional, or other online content either in realtime or for later use. Some of the specific functionalities of ClickVision include the ability to link video images to text, charts, photos, or supplemental video, in addition to Internet sites. In addition, the ClickVision enabling tool allows for the creation of an unlimited number of dynamic links within a video frame, and tracks selected items automatically for the length of the show, even if they change in shape or size.

Envivio has introduced EnvivioTV, an ISO/MPEG-4 complete media player, supporting streaming, local playback, and digital rights protection of MPEG-4 audio, video, and mixed media streams for the Internet and broadcast networks. EnvivioTV implements the MPEG-4 Advanced2D graphics profile, and allows content providers to stream or locally play rich media content based on the ISO/MPEG-4 open standard, convert existing content such as audio, video, graphics, text, and 2D animations (such as Macromedia-Flash) into a single MPEG-4 file, and distribute it over most networks. EnvivioTV is also a plug-in to the QuickTime and Real players.

Huge Systems has developed a new family of desktop storage systems, called HugeMediaVault. Included in the family is the DualMax, which offers up to a full terabyte of storage in a system measuring approximately 10.25 H x 7.5 W x 14.75 D; and the RAID 0/3, which utilizes a single chip RAID 3 controller combined with an onboard processor and dedicated cache memory. The DualMax also features a dual channel U160 SCSI 3 controller that supports uncompressed HDTV recording and playback at resolutions up to and including 1080i at 10 bits.

Inscriber Technology Corporation has released its Inscriber RTX 4.5, the newest version of its open system-based product. It is designed for enhanced data driven display and original channel branding graphics. The new release supports Windows 2000 and features new utilities that deliver DVE effects and analog clocks. RTX 4.5 introduces a graphical interface for simple access to DVE moves for both live video and AVI playback. In addition, on-air effects such as flips, squeezes, crops, and blurring are now available.

LV 5152 Waveform Monitor
Leader Instruments is bringing out its new LV 5152 multiform waveform/vector monitor. In addition to providing analog component monitoring facilities for six of the SD/HD raster formats currently under consideration in the U.S. and three that are under consideration in Europe, the LV 5152 offers a new option for 1080/24p for use in telecine edit suites. The unit accepts two 3-wire analog inputs in Y/Pb/Pr or GBBR form and provides waveform monitoring in overlay, parade, and timing (bowtie) modes.

Philips Digital Networks recently released its StatCast PRO, a multichannel statistical encoding solution that is part of the company's new PROline series. The solution is based on an internal ATM network that connects all Philips MPEG-2 encoders with a new DSP- based controller, which measures picture complexity and assigns service bit rates. Features include the ability to simultaneously control up to 24 TV services that require encoding within one transport stream, increased processing power, and the ability to allocate bit rates four times per video frame.

Microwave Radio Communications (MRC) recently unveiled its STRATA series COFDM portable microwave system. The STRATA gives broadcasters the ability to choose between or combine features that include digital, analog, switchable digital and analog, COFDM, MPEG-2, low power or high power capacity and various data rates in excess of 90 Mbps. The system's Network Control Interface gives users the ability to control the functions of any box within any of the stacks, even those separated by distance. In addition, the STRATA can be coupled with a wide range of MRC antennas. Each STRATA configuration can be tripod mounted or installed in a half-width equipment rack.

Nardalert XT Interface Kit
Narda Safety Test Solutions has introduced the Nardalert XT Interface Kit, a system for downloading, saving, and analyzing data collected in personal RF safety monitors worn by engineers, field technicians, and others who work in proximity to sources of RF radiation. The kit retrieves data logs stored in Nardalert XT monitors, saves the records on a PC, and gives users the ability to view graphed data to determine RF exposure levels. It comes in a plastic case and includes an interface module and two cables, one which connects the module to the Nardalert XT personal RF monitor; the second which links the module to the PC.

SGI has released its SGI Origin 300 server for technical midrange and media applications. The base server of the Origin 300 module holds two or four MIPS 64-bit processors, up to 4 GB of memory, and two disk drives in approximately 3.5 inches of rack space. Optional components add I/O bandwidth, high-throughput SGI Total Performance 900 (TP900) storage arrays or additional system bandwidth for scalability of up to 32 processors in a single, shared-memory system. Two 32-processor SGI Origin 300 systems fit into a single, industry-standard rack.

Ratio Converter
Snell & Wilcox recently introduced its ARC 20:20 variable-aspect ratio converter at IBC. It is a 10-bit, bi-directional, broadcast-quality aspect ratio converter with serial digital inputs and outputs. It includes vertical-temporal filtering and has input and output blanking, enabling the operator to clean the edges of a picture. Background color is fully selectable. Other features include composite (analog) output for monitoring, which if desired can also include engineering data.

DB-8 Surround TV Processor
TC Electronic has begun shipping its new surround sound transmission processor, the DB-8. The multichannel processing platform is digital-ready, has TV transmission, and linking features such as loudness control, peak limit, format control, and timing adjustments. In addition, the product features four advanced processors with up to eight channels of I/Os, which can be assigned to either of the physical I/Os. The four individual processors can be used as mono, stereo, or 5.1 building blocks to control loudness as well as routing and format conditioning.

CopperHead Multiplexer
Telecast Fiber Systems has released its CopperHead camera-mounted, fiber optic multiplexer family for ENG and SNG applications. The CopperHead consists of a multiplexing transceiver mounted between the ENG camera body and battery, and features a link to a 1-RU, 19-inch frame. The multiplexer's Tac-1 single-fiber cable weighs about 10 pounds per 1,000 feet and terminates in a bayonet-style ST connector. The fiber simultaneously carries a 12-bit digitized program video with two 24-bit audio channels from the camera, return video, black burst, tally, and IFB audio back to the camera, and intercom, RS232 data, and CCU control data in both directions.

DVB-ASI Interface Option
Vela has released a DVB-ASI interface for its RapidAccess video server, allowing users to record, store, and playback DVB-ASI streams into RapidAccess. With the DVB-ASI option, RapidAccess is able to capture and store DVB-ASI streams in native format for later playback with no need for decoding and re-encoding. In addition, it accommodates single or multiplexed DVB-ASI streams along with standard MPEG-2 streams. Two modes of DVB-ASI operation are available: native DVB-ASI mode, wherein RapidAccess records and stores an incoming DVB-ASI stream, or MPEG-2 playout with DVB-ASI multiplexing.

V.I. Combination Test Pattern
Video Instruments has developed a new reference image (test pattern) for setup, alignment, and performance analysis of video displays. The pattern can be used with SDTV and HDTV of all types, including direct view or projection. The pattern is composed of crosshatch bars with the number and position of elements, horizontally and vertically, correct for the aspect ratio in use; dots contained within the blocks formed by the intersection of bar elements; and circles, provided at the center and all four corners. Resolution targets are provided at each corner for both horizontal and vertical image planes.
