Radyne ships high-speed modulators
Radyne has begun shipping its DVB-S2 ACM and VCM modulators, which support open standards. With data rates reaching 250Mb/s, support for DVB-S and DVB-S2 (including DVB-S2 CM), as well as VCM and ACM modes, the new DM240XR is an “eXtReme” version of the company’s popular DM240 system.
The company’s DM240XR family of high-speed modulators is designed to meet the demand for high data-rate video, Internet and fiber restoral satellite applications. With a variety of frequency options and plug-in data interfaces (PIIC), it provides greater flexibility for changing and upgrading the unit.
Models can be purchased in different configurations, including a Pro-MPEG gigabit Ethernet interface, for sending MPEG signals over an IP infrastructure. Other interfaces include ASI, DVB Parallel, HSSI and G.703.
A new onboard monitor and control (M&C) processor offers the capability to download firmware and enhance features from a field-changeable flash card. In addition, features can be easily added to existing equipment.
The Modulator offers a frequency-agile IF output from 50 to 90MHz, 100 to 180MHz (70/140) or 950 to 2050MHz (L-Band) in 100Hz steps. Variable data rates from 1Mb/s to 238Mb/s can be set in 1b/s steps.
Additional features include the choice of remotely interfacing through one of three onboard connections: 10 Base-T/100 Base-T Ethernet, RS-485 or RS-232. The Radyne Front Panel (pictured) offers push-button control of all features and a backlit LCD display. Menus are specifically designed for easy use and quick online operation as well as changes in all modulator configurations. An optional 1:1 Redundancy Control Switch (RCS11) is available to ensure the DM240XR’s reliability.
