Rhode & Schwarz introduces encoder and data inserter/generator for statistically multiplexed DVB-H video playout
Rohde & Schwarz (R&S) has developed the R&S AVE264 H.264 encoder and R&S DIP010 data inserter and generator for DVB-H playout with statistical multiplex of transmitting mobile video.
With DVB-H, several TV programs with different data rates are transmitted on a single channel. Sequences in which there is considerable movement require higher data rates than picture content with less movement. The R&S AVE264 encoder has a variable bit rate and applies the statistical multiplex principle to accommodate both types of content. The H.264 video in the AVE264 coordinates the various requirements, ensuring optimum use of the transmission channel. The DIP010 data inserter adds the IP data stream from the encoder to an existing or user-generated DVB-H transport stream and processes services with constant and variable bit rates and can handle statistical multiplex services. The inserter optimally uses the available data rate by employing automatic time slicing.
The statistical multiplex can be configured via user interface, and all DVB-H programs can be encrypted. The DVB-H playout can be used for systems with conditional access, such as pay TV.
