For the 11th consecutive year, Audio-Technica (A-T) microphones were featured at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony. A-T supplied more than 70 mics to capture the audio for the annual event, which took place at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel in Midtown Manhattan, New York. The March 10 ceremony was broadcast live on VH1 Classic, with inductees including John Mellencamp, Madonna, Leonard Cohen, the Dave Clark Five and the Ventures as well as legendary blues harmonica player Little Walter and Philly soul producers Gamble & Huff.
Audio-Technica’s Artist Elite 5000 UHF wireless with AEW-T5400 handheld transmitter were used for frontline vocals on performances by Damien Rice, John Fogerty, Patti LaBelle, Joan Jett and Ben Harper as well as for presentations by Billy Joel, Paul Shaffer and Jerry Butler. Noted saxophonist Alto Reed (Bob Seger & The Silver Bullet Band) performed with the Ventures using an ATM35 mic on an AEW-T1000 bodypack. The backline complement of A-T wired mics included AE5400 for vocals; AE5100 for hi-hat; AT4047/SV for guitar cabinets; AT4050 for overheads; AE2500 for bass guitar cabinets; and the venerable AT4054 and AT4055 for Leslie cabinets and horns.
The technical staff for the induction ceremony included audio coordinator Mitch Maketansky, working with remote recording specialists XM Productions/Effanel Music and its L7 remote truck, with Joel Singer and Grammy-winner John Harris as on-site music mixers, while Jorge Silva was the production mixer. Also manning key posts were RF coordinator Tony Bandelato, FOH engineer Dave Natale and Tom Holmes as monitor mixer. Jay Vicari once again served as broadcast remixer.
